Breast Lift Surgery
What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts. Dr. Thomas J. Rishavy performs this procedure to rejuvenate a woman's figure, creating a more youthful and uplifted breast profile. Breast lifts address changes in breast shape and firmness that can result from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, aging, gravity, or heredity.
The Procedure
Dr. Rishavy uses various incision techniques for breast lifts, depending on the patient's unique needs. The appropriate technique is determined by factors such as the degree of lift needed, breast size and shape, skin elasticity, and nipple-areola placement. The surgery typically takes two to three hours under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation with local anesthesia.
Recovery
After the surgery, patients are closely monitored in a recovery area. The breasts are wrapped in gauze dressings and supported by an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling. A small drainage tube may be temporarily placed under the skin. Most patients can return home the same day but should have someone drive them and stay with them for at least the first night post-surgery.
