Understanding the Mommy Makeover Procedure

A Mommy Makeover is a customized surgical approach designed to address physical changes resulting from pregnancy and childbirth. The procedure typically focuses on two primary areas most impacted by pregnancy: the abdominal region and breasts.

Targeted Body Transformations

The comprehensive procedure generally includes a combination of surgical techniques such as:

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) to tighten abdominal muscles
  • Breast enhancement procedures including augmentation, lift, or combination
  • Removal of excess skin and tissue

Ideal Candidates for Mommy Makeover

Optimal candidates for a Mommy Makeover are women who have completed childbearing, returned to their pre-pregnancy weight, and seek to restore their body's pre-pregnancy contours. The procedure is recommended for patients who have stabilized their weight and do not plan additional pregnancies.

Surgical Approach

At the Kryger Institute of Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeons perform Mommy Makeover procedures simultaneously, minimizing overall surgical time and reducing associated risks. This synchronized approach offers enhanced efficiency and potentially lower recovery complexity.

Anesthesia and Surgical Considerations

Mommy Makeover procedures can be performed under twilight anesthesia or general anesthesia. The specific technique is determined during comprehensive pre-surgical consultations, considering individual patient needs and medical history.

Recovery and Expectations

Recovery from a Mommy Makeover varies by individual but generally involves:

  • Initial rest period of 2-3 days
  • Gradual increase in activity over subsequent weeks
  • Restrictions on strenuous activities for approximately 6 weeks
  • Potential swelling and bruising that diminishes over time

Cost and Insurance Considerations

Most insurance providers do not cover Mommy Makeover procedures as they are considered elective. However, combining multiple surgical techniques can offer potential cost savings compared to individual surgeries performed separately.

I just had a Rhinoplasty done here a week ago, from consultation to getting the surgery was done within a months time and I was so happy I didn’t have to wait months out for it. The place is very nice, great and friendly staff, they do the surgery in the same office which was awesome! The Doctors did a great job on my nose, I came out of surgery feeling great and had no pain at all, I recovered super quick and had little bruising, in less then a week I’m ready to go back to work and loving my new nose, I now feel confident to show my side profile, they did such a great job here. I would definitely recommend.

I had keyhole top surgery done by Dr. Gil Kryger in March 2022. The results are amazing, and the aftercare support was wonderful. They took my concerns seriously and supported me through all of it. I had some very minor issues with the drains and was very well instructed on how to keep the site clean and padded, although I wish the instructions on this were a bit clearer beforehand. Proper instruction on how to apply the gauze would have been appreciated, as well as knowing to have hydrogen peroxide for cleaning the site outside of the showers (warm water did wonders). My left side was swelling a bit and they did a good job informing me on how to take care of it and kept a good eye on it. Overall, my surgery was very successful and I couldn't be happier with the results. The scarring is barely visible! I went to the beach shirtless for the first time that year and it felt exhilarating. Thank you for that. What upset me however was two things. On my way to the operating table, under the influence of medication, I was misgendered by one of the nurses walking with me. I use they/them pronouns and she/her was used. I could understand accidentally using he/him, but this just seems strange. It seems absolutely unacceptable given the type of surgery I was undergoing. I was too in shock and upset to say anything until now. Additionally, the lack of any empathy from Dr. Kryger when I asked about potentially needing to reschedule during the pre-op was very upsetting. I have no supportive family in the area, and the very little I do (two people, and even that support is shakey) I was not in contact with at the time. I do not have many people in the area who can support me. I was struggling to find someone to help me after the surgery. Not everyone is lucky enough to have people who actually support them and love them for who they are, especially trans people.

I’ve been to dr.Kryger for a double mastectomy, almost a year ago. And I must tell you that the results are flawless! I’m flat as a board, Staff is super nice and patient with you, the clinic is super clean and perfect! I live more towards Long Beach, but the drive is absolutely worth it! Aftercare instructions are super clear and easy to understand. I give this office a solid 10/10 Now my fiancé is gonna go there for his top surgery and I’m absolutely excited for them!

Dr Gil, you did it again!!! First my eyes (no pain and in public the following day), then my neck 3 years later (again NO PAIN!!! and in Mexico on the beach the next week and no one could tell anything) and now the lines in around my mouth -no pain and out shopping that day. Your staff is so nice, your office is gorgeous! and you were kind and reassuring and honest. Not sure everyone realizes your professional accomplishments nor amazing education. Thanks
