BEFORE BRACHIOPLASTY OPERATION

Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Elliptical
skin and fat tissues are removed through an incision made downwards
from the armpit area. A drain is placed to collect blood and body
fluids that may accumulate inside. These drains are removed after
24-48 hours. Blood thinning agents such as aspirin should be avoided
for 10 days before surgery. In addition, if there are important
disorders in the patient's history and medications that he or she uses
constantly, the doctor should be informed. The blood tests necessary
for you will be done on the day of surgery or before. Likewise, your
anesthesia consultation will be made in the pre-operative period and
the type of anesthesia to be applied to you will be decided. In
addition, a drawing will be made in your room to plan the details of

AFTER BRACHIOPLASTY OPERATION

The hardest time comes right after surgery on the first day. Drugs
that induce sleep and painkillers are occasionally administered to
make this time more bearable. After surgery, you are not permitted to
consume anything for the first few hours. Usually, the first feeding
is with liquid foods. After the operation, you can go home after the
effect of the anesthesia wears off. Very rarely, you may need to stay
in the hospital for 1 night. After you are allowed to go home, you are
expected to spend the first 5-7 days at home rest. In addition, one
should be careful about smoking in the first week after the operation.
It should not be forgotten that smoking has a negative effect on the
wound healing process. The first two days after the operation is the
period when the body is edematous. During this period, the body
collects water and movements become difficult. Generally, from the
third day, edema begins to decrease, and movements become easier. From
the second week after the surgery, you are allowed to return to your
social life gradually. But you are expected not to do heavy work using
your arms for six weeks.

Generally, you are allowed to take half showers for the first week
without wetting the surgical area. From the second week, a full shower
can be taken. You are not allowed to enter the pool and sea before the
fourth week. Sauna, solarium, steam bath, sunbathing and heavy sports
are undesirable for six weeks after the operation. The incision may be
red, itchy, and very noticeable, especially in the first months after
surgery (3-4 months). Over time, especially after the sixth month, it
is expected that the color of the operation scar will lighten, and the
itching will decrease. Up to two years may pass during this process.
Even after two years, a skin-colored surgical scar remains in the
operation area. This mark is in the visible area, it is necessary to
wear long-sleeved clothing to hide it. In the postoperative period,
long-lasting, sometimes permanent, numbness may also occur in the arm
region. These are expected to get better over time.
